Privacy policy
Last updated 12 October 2026
In short: TidierCloud reads information about your Google Drive™ files so it can show you what takes up space. That information stays in your own browser, on your own computer. It is never sent to TidierCloud or to anyone else, nobody at TidierCloud ever sees it, and no artificial intelligence (AI) is used on it. To join the beta you give us your name, email, profession and location: what I do with those is set out below.
Who we are
TidierCloud is run by Axel Drioli, a sole trader in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the beta sign-up details. For anything about this policy or your data, email axel@soundingwild.com.
TidierCloud comes in two forms that work the same way: the website at tidiercloud.com/app and a Chrome extension. This policy covers both.
What it reads from Google
With your permission (Google's “see information about your Google Drive files” access), TidierCloud reads, for each file and folder in your Drive:
- its name, type, size and the storage it uses;
- which folder it sits in;
- when it was last changed, and whether it's in the trash;
- its checksum (a fingerprint used to find exact duplicates);
- the name and email address of its owner;
- your own Google account's email address and storage totals.
It can't open the contents of your files, and it can't create, change, move, share or delete anything.
Where that information goes
- It stays on your computer. Everything is stored in your browser's own storage for this site (or for the extension), on the computer you use. It is not uploaded anywhere.
- Google is the only place TidierCloud talks to. Your browser asks Google's servers for your file list directly, and uses Google's sign-in service to get access. The website is set up so that its pages can't send data anywhere else.
- No server of mine sees your Drive data, no analytics, no adverts, no tracking. Nothing is sold, shared or used for anything except showing you your own storage. (The only server step is the beta sign-up, which checks your beta place when you open the app: see If you join the beta.)
- No cookies. The only things kept on your device are your own scan results, your Google sign-in and your beta pass (proof that this browser joined), in your browser's storage for this site. They're needed for the app to work; nothing else is stored, and nothing is used to track you.
- Safari, and any private window, may delete that saved data if you don't open TidierCloud for about a week; Chrome, Firefox and Edge keep it until you delete it.
- The access Google gives TidierCloud is stored in your browser too and expires after about an hour. To renew it, the page briefly goes to Google's sign-in and back.
- If you export a list (CSV or file index), it's saved to your own Downloads folder.
No AI on your data
TidierCloud doesn't use artificial intelligence on your data. Your file information is never sent to an AI service or model, no AI reads, sorts or makes decisions about your files, and your data is never used to train any AI.
To be open about it: we used AI tools (Anthropic's Claude) to help write and check the program's code. The finished program that runs in your browser is ordinary code that counts, adds up and lists. It contains no AI and contacts no AI service.
If you join the beta
The beta has 50 places. To join, you give us:
- your first name, surname and email address;
- your profession and location (town and country);
- whether you'd like news of the paid launch (only if you tick that box).
We also record when you joined, when you last opened TidierCloud (at most once an hour) and how many times. This is the only information that reaches us. Your Google Drive data is never part of it.
Why, and the legal basis:
- To give you a beta place, keep the beta to 50 people and let you back in: this is needed to provide the beta you asked for (UK GDPR and EU GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- To know how many people use it, who it's for (profession and location) and to email you about the beta itself, such as changes, problems and requests for feedback: our legitimate interest in running and improving the beta (Article 6(1)(f)).
- To tell you when the paid version launches: only with your consent, the tick box (Article 6(1)(a) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations). You can withdraw it at any time by replying to any email or writing to me, without affecting the rest.
Giving your name, email, profession and location is needed to join the beta; you can still read this site without joining.
Where it's kept and who sees it: in a private storage area on Vercel's servers in London, UK. Only TidierCloud can see it. Vercel Inc. (USA) runs that storage for us as a processor; its staff don't use it for anything else, and any access from outside the UK is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, backed by standard contractual clauses. It isn't sold or shared with anyone, and no AI is used on it.
How long: until the beta ends and for up to 12 months after, then deleted. If you ticked the launch-news box, your name and email are kept for that until you unsubscribe. Waiting-list entries are deleted if no place opens before the beta ends. Ask us and we'll delete your details sooner.
Google API data: Limited Use
TidierCloud's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is used only to show you your own storage, is never transferred to anyone, is never used for advertising or to train AI models, and is never read by people.
UK and EU data protection
TidierCloud is designed around the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, and the EU General Data Protection Regulation for people in the European Union and EEA:
- Data minimisation: it asks Google for the narrowest access that can list your files (file information only, read-only), and keeps nothing it doesn't need.
- Privacy by design: the work happens on your own device, so your Drive information is never collected by us in the first place.
- Security: everything travels encrypted (HTTPS) between your browser and Google. Your stored data is protected by your browser and your computer's own account and disk security.
- You stay in control: you can see everything it holds (it's what the app shows you) and delete all of it yourself at any time, as described below.
Deleting your data
- Website: removing an account in TidierCloud deletes that account's saved data. To delete everything, clear this site's data in your browser's settings (in Chrome: the icon left of the address bar → Site settings → Delete data).
- Extension: removing it in
chrome://extensionsdeletes everything it stored. - To withdraw its Google access, go to myaccount.google.com/connections and remove TidierCloud.
If you email us
If you send feedback or a question, we receive your email address and what you write. We use them only to reply and to improve the app. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you and running the beta. We keep beta emails until the beta ends and for up to 12 months after, then delete them. Our email is provided by Google Workspace.
This website
This site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security for a limited time. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. Vercel doesn't publish an exact retention period, and I have no access to these logs myself. Vercel may process them outside the UK and EU, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension (the UK–US data bridge), backed by standard contractual clauses. The site uses no cookies, analytics or tracking.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it. Since your Drive information never reaches us, the data we hold about you is your beta sign-up details and any email you've sent. You can also ask for a copy of them in a common format. To use your rights, email us; we'll reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority in your EU country.
Automated decisions
No automated decision-making or profiling is done about you. The 50-place limit is first come, first served.
Children
The app isn't aimed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date. If a change affects how your Drive information is handled, we'll say so in the app before it applies.
